How do I send a Text Message?

For most digital phones, to Send:
  • Step 1: Select Messages.
  • Step 2: Select Send To or Send New.
  • Step 3: Enter a mobile number.
  • Step 4: Select Next.
  • Step 5: Enter your message, select Next.
  • Step 6: Select Options, and select Send.
Helpful Text Entry Tips:
When entering text, make sure you use the "alpha" (ABC or TAP) entry mode and not the "T9", "iTAP" or "WORD" entry mode. The "@" can be found under "sym" or "symbols". When entering numbers, make sure you use the "123" or "NUM" entry mode.

I can't send out an SMS. What's wrong?

Here are a few ways to find out what is the cause :
  • Check your account status: Type *111# and press SEND.
Select Option 1 and then Option 2. If the status is "Barred", you need to reload your airtime value, to make an outgoing call.
  • Your airtime may be insufficient. Check your current balance : type *111# and press SEND.
Select option 1 and then option 1 again in the next menu. This should indicate your current airtime balance and network validity.
  • Check your mobile phone network bar. If there are no bars or minimum number of bars, the network coverage of the area you are at is weak. You need to move to an area where the coverage is stronger.
  • Check whether Line 1 or Line 2 is selected in your mobile phone. Your default line must be Line 1. If it is Line 2, please switch to Line 1.
  • Check whether the "Message Center Number" is correctly set in your mobile phone. You may do this by accessing the "Message Settings" option in your "Messages" menu. Tune Talk's message center number is +60193900045
  • The network may be congested. This could happen for a few reasons:
    - If it is an eve of a holiday
    - There may be a technical glitch with the network.
Try to re-send message after a certain period of time, e.g., 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour.

I was charged 2 or 3 times more for the last SMS that I sent. Why?

You may have composed a message that has more than 160 characters. If the message has more than 160 characters, the 1st set will be charged according to 1 SMS, followed by the next 160 characters.

E.g. Message: "We will move office on the 16th of February 2009. There may be an issue with internet connection as the network server has not been setup yet. We may have to consider working from home for the next one week."
The message above contains 207 characters. The 1st 160 characters will be charged as 1 SMS, followed by the next 47 characters, which will be charged as another SMS.
Altogether, the cost of this message was 2 SMS worth.
