Tune Talk, Malaysia’s fastest-growing mobile network operator and the world’s first cloud-native telco, has begun integrating MyDigital ID into its mobile application, reinforcing its belief that telcos must play a central role in safeguarding digital trust as Malaysia’s economy becomes increasingly connected.
The move supports a nationwide effort to curb scam calls, identity impersonation, and fraud by anchoring every mobile number to a verified and trusted digital identity. For Tune Talk, the integration goes beyond regulatory compliance. It reflects a broader responsibility to ensure that mobile connectivity — a foundation of daily life, commerce, and public services — is not exploited as a tool for criminal activity.
Through MyDigital ID, Tune Talk customers will experience a more secure and streamlined identity verification process when registering new SIM cards, verifying existing prepaid numbers, and accessing the Tune Talk app. By reducing reliance on manual checks and fragmented verification methods, the integration raises the baseline for SIM security while improving user convenience.
The implementation is carried out in coordination with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and supported by the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), aligning with national efforts to build a safer, more resilient digital environment. While timelines and features may vary across service providers, the shared goal is clear: to eliminate unverified SIM cards as an entry point for fraud and abuse.
“Digital trust is no longer optional — it’s infrastructure,” said Gurtaj Singh Padda, Chief Executive Officer of Tune Talk. “Mobile numbers sit at the centre of how Malaysians authenticate themselves, access services, and stay connected. By integrating MyDigital ID, we’re taking a proactive step to protect our customers, reduce fraud at the source, and show that telcos can lead in building a safer digital ecosystem without adding friction for users.”
The MyDigital ID platform verifies users directly against official government records under the supervision of the National Registration Department (NRD). It does not store personal data, track online activity, or collect new information. All verification is performed with explicit user consent, ensuring individuals remain in control of their identity at every step.
Tune Talk’s participation underscores its ongoing commitment to national cybersecurity priorities and responsible innovation. As digital identity becomes a cornerstone of Malaysia’s digital economy, Tune Talk believes collaboration between government, industry, and consumers is essential to sustaining trust at scale.
